Halloween Series: Freaky Friday

Hello Pretty! It's October and this is my favorite month of the year. Apple picking, hot cocoa, jeans and hoodies AND Halloween. Halloween is my favorite holiday, it always has been, I love playing dress up! So every Friday in October I'm going to post ideas for Halloween! First up is Día de los Muertos or Day Of The Dead most often recognized by a decoration called sugar skulls.

Sugar Skulls are beautiful! So I decided to become one. I didn't do a video but I'll list the products used and any tips!

Face:
To lighten my face I used a face primer (to protect my skin from the many makeup items I will be using NOT meant for my face!)

I then lightly applied NYX Eye Shadow base in white to my face to help lighten it. I wanted this to look like makeup not facepaint. You could certainly use face paint if you wanted!

Because this is a cream product I then lightly applied powder to set the product.

Design:

To create the design I used a sharpened black eyeliner pencil to lightly trace on the design I wanted. One of the coolest parts of this costume is that there is no right or wrong, it's about unleashing your creativity.

Color:

Sugar skills are beautiful and vibrant. Once the design was on the way I wanted it. I used my BH Cosmetics 88 Matte Palette to add color. Any colors could work for you, I stuck to purples and pinks and added glitter in a few spots to really accentuate the design. (unfortunately the glitter did not photograph well) I used my makeup brushes for this, I used small brushes like my concealer brush to give me more accuracy in the application of color.

The Lips:

I used a red lip pencil and filled in my entire lip with it, I wanted to maintain the matte look. I then used my MAC Fluid line in black track and a small angled eye liner brush to draw lines down my lips.

Stay tuned for the next part of this series which will be posted on 10/12/2012
