Well That's Awkward: Scary Beautiful Shoes

I love shoes, they are the perfect way to completely change an outfit. You can dress it up or down based on what footwear you choose. These shoes by Leanie van der Vyver were created to be social commentary about the lengths women will go, to be labeled beautiful. The shoes themselves are terrifying but the message behind them is nice. How many times have I worn a pair of too high, super painful heels because they looked cute? A LOT.

These shoes are in a word, backwards. Your foot goes straight down and your shin presses against the front of the shoe for "balance". They remind me of lobster claws combined with ballet shoes. Nothing about this footwear looks safe to me, broken toes anyone? Watch the video below to see a model walk verrrrry slowly in these shoes.

Please remember these are a project not a fashion statement, don't go out looking to buy these.

What's Not Hot: The Feeding Tube "Diet"

Getting married is something so many girls dream about at a young age. We fantasize about the dress, our shoes, the something blue, our prince, the dress, the dress, the dress. We have reality shows based on this obsession "Say Yes To The Dress" for example, where hopeful brides come searching for the perfect gown to complete the princess dream. Recently some brides have been taking things to the EXTREME, it's beyond crash dieting and bridezillas but onto medical procedures. Let me introduce you to the feeding tube. Brides get a feeding tube that goes through their nostrils and into the stomach. All food is delivered through this tube for 10 days, no carbohydrates are administered and rapid weight loss is the result. According to the New York Times this is a regular procedure in Spain and Italy, who knew other countries were as devastatingly consumed with looks as we are!?

In the New York Times article it states:

"Note: wedding dresses run small, so a typical size 8 dress will be a size 10 or 12, a psychological shock for the young woman buying the gown. Kleinfeld resists brides who want smaller sizes, because taking a dress in is easier than letting it out."

Our culture is so psychologically wrapped around the number on our garments we will go to extremes to wiggle into the smallest one. This diet is nothing different, I understand it's medically supervised, but this seems very similar to the diagnostics for anorexia nervosa, a very serious psychological disorder where people restrict caloric intake themselves. The tube "diet" provides no more than 800 calories a day and the person consumes no actual food.

This procedure costs around $1,500 dollars and the tube is worn in public, some brides state that they didn't leave the house because people thought they were dying. Huh, wonder why that might be? Maybe because feeding tubes are designed for people who are comatose or dying, just a thought.

Frankly, this is terrifying to me, people say things like "feminism is dead because we are equals now", yet women go to such extreme lengths to fit into societies standards. I will state now so trolls don't attack me that I understand some men go to these extremes as well, but statistically these crash diets attract females far more than our male counterparts.

I fear for these women and even more for our culture, we are so fat obsessed, anorexia is more socially accepted than being overweight. Our kids are growing up consumed by food, thoughts of food, pictures of food, what not to eat, what to eat, fat shaming etc. Watch one episode of "Toddlers in Tiaras" to see what I am talking about.

What do you think of all this? Is it as scary to you as it is to me!? Leave me your comments below!

What's Not Hot: Male Polish

Did you know they make nail polish  for men? Well they do and it's called Alphanail. This polish is geared towards men and guess how they market it? By selling sex... seriously there website claims that you will get more sex if you paint your nails...

Now here are my questions:

1. Why not buy regular, cheaper nail polish if you are going to paint your nails? Alphanail is $9.95 for one color.

2. Are men really dumb enough to believe that by adding color to their nails they will attract hot half naked girls... Axe body spray sold this propaganda too

The website states:
"For those of you with a flair for style, our colors are so sick Dr. House can’t fix them. The revolutionary matte collection provides an uber-masculine and fashion forward satin finish, and our metallics shine like candy paint in the summer time. What’s more, our unique click pen applicator does away with those dainty little brushes and girly nail polish containers. Just click, paint, put the cap on, and its ready to go for another round. "

Now I would like to show you the video featured on the website... it still looks pretty dainty to me despite the hot chick thrown in and the random punching scene...

http://youtu.be/ujPBA2HKPus

I would like to say I am not opposed to men wearing nail polish, I'm not all about fitting into gender roles, but I do think it's silly to make a product specifically targeted to men.

Also the site claims "AlphaNail is for strength, for style, for swagger, for protection, or to cover up your fugly toenails. It doesn’t matter your age, your profession, or your style. "

I would like to note that I am pretty sure if you walk into a professional world with man polish on it may not go over well.... so the whole it doesn't matter your profession thing isn't really accurate. Thanks for the lies Alphanail.

Be sure to check out the site here... for plenty of laughs.

What do you think Glossy Gurls? Hot or Not? Would you go stripping clothes off at the site of man polish?

What's Not Hot: Pajama Jeans for Men

So you are desperate to find that perfect holiday gift and are running out of time, please don't buy these for your boyfriend or brother or whatever man is in your life. These pants are so fabulous your man will put them on and look like this! Don't you love advertising? On this man anything would look good, but look closer the exposed boxers and patches on the jean? Ick! Here is what the website says about these pants: from the lakeside.com website

"Kick back and relax in these Knit Jean Lounge Pants printed with realistic designs.

  • These comfortable 100% cotton lounge pants have an elastic waist with drawstring and side seam pockets.
  • Jeans features designs of rips, tears and a button fly.
  • Dark Wash has realistic designs of patches, rips and what looks like your favorite pair of boxers peeking out the top; the back has the same great details.
  • Available in men's sizes Medium (32/34), Large (36/38) and X-Large (40/42).
  • Machine washable; imported.
  • The look of distressed jeans with the soft comfort of cotton knit!"

The more disturbing part is not that these are on the market but that lakeside.com is currently sold out in every single size.

So don't worry while your man is lounging eating Doritos and watching the Patriots play you can still be super attracted to him because his faux boxers are showing... and when he doesn't take out the trash or do the dishes just take a look at that hot ass and you will no longer care he is lazy, forever in pajamas and always wearing the same underwear because he LOOKS dressed. Don't you love the beauty of deception?

What's Not Hot: Mean Girls

Don't get me wrong... I love the movie but in real life mean girls are so NOT HOT. Bullying is a hot topic issue these days. With an increase in suicide rates amongst young tweens and teens people are finally starting to take notice to this issue. This is an issue that has been around for years and saw little face time among school officials. In high school I was bullied terribly and received no support from the school despite my mothers many calls and complaints. I heard from guidance counselors and teachers alike "people who bully are insecure" its that phrase we throw around to try to make the victims of these horrific events feel better, however it's not the reality for all bullies and rarely makes the victim feel any sense of relief. Once upon a time when someone was bullied they were safe when they went home, unfortunately today with facebook, the internet, text messaging this just isn't the case. Kids are being tortured from the safety of their bedrooms, parents can't keep them safe because the abuse is everywhere.

1 in 4 teens are bullied

The only thing that will change this is if kids get involved in this movement adults need to stop arguing about how to handle it and begin asking for help from the only people who can change it... other teenagers need to stand up and shout out this is NOT okay. Bystanders continue the violence, silence continues the acceptance and keeps mean girls on top. Check out the teens against bullying website below to see how you can get involved and how other teens have decided to speak out!

(important note: bullying can happen to anyone it is not gender specific... even though I wrote about mean girls anyone can be a bully)

What's Not Hot: Shitzhu Inspired Shoes

Don't get me wrong, I love my dog, she is a cute black Shitzhu named Boo but I don't want to wear her on my feet. These shoes by Christian Siriano are a please don't! I feel like these shoes should come with a brush and shampoo, the "fur" looks matted, balled and stuck on. Maybe they are inspired by the chia pet... wonder if Project Runway approves. These remind me of those little pom poms you use in arts and crafts class in elementary school, great for making homemade gifts for mom but not for wearing on your feet.

What's Not Hot: Balloon Pants

I have to admit... I love the Kardashians, reality tv is a guilty pleasure. I think they are super adorable and I generally love the way they dress, they are so glam and chic. I was excited when I heard about the Kardashian Kollection (although wasn't super stoked when I heard it was at Sears) generally Sears is good for my auto repair but I'm not big on clothes shopping there. However I live in NH and clearly don't have a Dash store near me so Sears is the only option. I was site surfing and I found these pants... Please don't. I don't know why they would ever think these were a good idea but balloon pants are a no no. They make the skinniest girl look oddly shaped. Not to mention the shine of these pants, they are sequins. I generally don't do sequin clothing it's itchy and tacky.

The 80's are back, neon colors,
big hair, curls but some things should just stay buried. M.C Hammer pants are one of those things. They weren't hot then and they aren't hot now.

The Kardashian Kollection does have some cute pieces but the prices are a serious turn off, I have yet to purchase anything so I am unsure about the quality but just the fact that the price of these pants are 69.99 (on sale) is questionable. What do you think about these pants?
