Beauty Blogger Terms

So I was talking to a friend today about different beauty products and realized I was using terms she didn't know. So I thought it would be a good post... let's define some terms beauty bloggers use regularly. If you come across any words not defined here please feel free to write me so I can add it! Thanks.
Swatches- a swatch is a test of a product. It can be any product... lipstick, eye shadow, nail polish etc. Please be aware that though swatches are a great thing they usually still vary  for each person as we all have different skin tones etc. Cameras, lighting and thickness of application all play a part in the color variation. For example these bloggers both posted a swatch of Urban Decay Psychedelic Sister please note how different they  look!

Pigmented- this refers to how true a color is to it's pressed or loose powder form. For example you know those eye shadows that look super fab in the package but when applied look dull and lifeless? That is a lack of pigmentation. So when bloggers describe something as highly pigmented it means it's very close to it's true color. Seek pigmented eye shadows! Urban Decay is always a good choice.

Don't go throwing out your cheap eye shadows yet though...Tip: Have a pretty shadow that just doesn't cut it? Dip your brush in water before applying! It creates a more vibrant and dramatic look!

Sheer/ Opacity- This is used to describe nail polish a sheer polish requires many coats to cover the nail while an opaque polish covers it quickly with less coats.

Matte- pronounced "Matt" this refers to a finish that does NOT reflect light

Shimmer- refers to a finish that DOES reflect light

Primer- Facial Primer refers to a product used to cover pores and smooth skin for a flawless definition. Eye Primer is similar but holds long lasting color and makes shadows more vibrant because they sit on top of the skin rather than blending into it.

Hope this helps! Have a gorgeous day beautiful!
